Went to airport to send off jiahui and cuixia yesterday night. Should see the reaction by jh, so relieved to see us! cause compared to cx, her "supporters" not that many ma.... =X Yeah, quite a number of juniors are flying off for exchange. hmm. doubt everything 以后 will be that 热闹 as before ...

But then lucky i did go! A simple send off turn out to be a declaration of relationships! cause 2 great news are out!!! haha. Congrats to the 2 new couples... ^_^ (well, why am i ALWAYS only the last few to know huh.. Maybe i am not that observant ) And also because of this, NOW we also know who are the tight lipped people, those who can be trusted with secrets de. haha. well, should feel happy for them. =)

But then, someone is happy, someone is sad too. :\ hmm. Lucky he managed to let go. hopefully.

Back from laos just in time to watch the juniors juniors's songsign performance. They spilt into 2 venues for the first 2 days.

Fri. Went to tiong bahru plaza to watch their mass performances. The moment they saw me, they commented that i had become tanner and..grown a bit more muscular. haha. Although glad and kek strongly insists that was not true. lol. (让我爽一下下不可以吗?:P) Well, for seniors, saw qian hao, the only "孤魂野鬼" there. Cause he got no group. Same as me. haha. At least we had each other for company. All the songs here never hear before, although a few really sounds very smoothing and nice. The senior songsign song is very high, and their formation...haha, "copyright"!! :)

Sat. Went to hougang mall to watch the other group. Here got my familiar songs, last christmas!!! And the senior songsign group performing this gift. hmm. Not very high, but they almost roleplay all the way. Feel as if i watching a skit.. This time, i went earlier, thought qian hao will be there.(he promised!) But he didnt appear, he totally forgot!! Now i FINALLY know how a "孤魂野鬼"feels like. No group to go to, just drift here and there... :( And since most of the juniors dunno me, i am almost semi transparent to them too. Hmph. Tmr i WONT go so early liao!~ =_=

Sun. Last day of mass performance, 10 groups, 1 hour special. The atmosphere is really nice and high. Especially the last song, add a great finishing touch. Cheers!~ :) After that, decided to eat steamboat with them but realised i didnt eat much in the end. Maybe i sort of used to eating smaller portions now after laos. hmm. This year songsign felt a bit weird and lonely. Their gift exchanges, their group photos, hmm, i already not a part of it anymore. :( Haiz, Welcome to the "lao ren bang " le~ haha.

Left early too, (cant see the point in staying other than continue to eat...) Went back together with yiting. Yeah, she came and support us too! =) Along the way, we talked about the memories in pong song. Like what we missed most. Since we are in the same class, we had quite a lot in common to chat about. She even seemed very high and already planning what to bring there if we were to go there again. :) Haha.

Deep down in my heart somehow, i really CAN feel how much she actually miss the teaching there. The way she talked, the excitement she expressed and of course the tears that she dropped before we depart ps.. Just like what she said, this experience is what u cant get here if u cont staying in foc or hi . .

Sabaidee! Back from Laos~ :)

Setting off...
Took a bus to KL LCCT to take the plane to Vientiane Wattay international Airport. We are not alone, took the same plane with malaysia athletes. (kinda wondering, shouldn't be they taking better class of airplane for the SEA games?) At the customs, quite surprised to see the kind of uniforms of the immigration officers wear. A bit "olden days" feeling. haha. Took a local transport where we all dumped all our bags on top of the bus and there we go.. The journey was bumpy and long but at least we have the delicious waffles to fill our stomachs. :) The scenery was nice and soothing, a lot of flatlands, rice fields and... many many many cows.

When we reached Pong Song Village, it was kinda late but they prepared a feast for us. Fish soup, fried fish, fried eggs(superb!!) They were really really friendly people! The village chief had changed and it turned out that our host's family is actually the new village chief!(nai ban!!) Wow. we should feel honoured. haha. Just noticed, the village is actually houses built along the sides of the main road. Ah, there is already a team of SMU people here already. Heard that the NUS people will come next week too. hmm. (This village sure is popular)

We spilt into 3 groups of 6 each to stay in each host's family. The guys slept in the village chief's house. Sun set at 6pm(1 hour slower than singapore time), and the weather starts to get cold. Very cold. When we bathe, the water was freezing cold. You put ur hand inside, u will start to feel numb gradually already. When the water splashed over our heads, then we experienced first hand what it means by BRAINFREEZE!! The weather gets even colder throughout the night and we wear our jacket+socks+blankets in order to sleep. And the touching thing is, the village chief even woke up in the middle of the night with a torch light to ensure that we cover ourself with our blankets and if we do not, he will help us cover!! Kop Chai!! (thank you in laos)

Weekday Morning:
We woke up and the whole village is misty and COLD. The Sun has not risen yet. our breakfast!! Guess what we have? Leftovers from yesterday's feast. haha. Imagine eating rice for breakfast. lol. In fact, every morning we had rice for our breakfast. Once in a while, we had roasted pork too, otherwise its fish. After breakfast, its lessons time. The school is only a short walk away. The school assembly area is actually a patch of sands and rocks. On monday,we can see the whole school gathered for the flag raising ceremony and the singing of their national anthem. We were spilt into groups of 3 to teach each class. My class was the oldest, pri 5. Can see that all the girls are sitted at the front while all the guys are seated at the back. And one noticeable thing is that there is quite a obvious age gap in these class. Hmm. Generally, my class is very well behaved. Maybe older, more mature. Cause i heard mad's class is like havoc. haha.

Communication soon become an obvious problem. But luckily, with PL around, its still alright. :) She really has a way with the kids. I and yiting totally "tried" our best to communicate with them. haha. Luckily, they managed to understand our "broken" laos language somehow. As the days passed by, they already used to our style of teaching also. Some of them are really hardworking, taking down notes. some are also shy, like refusing to let me see what they draw during drawing lessons etc. haha. Tao Zhan Shu, in my class really attracted my attention. haha. He was one of the most enthu students, yet also one of the most problematic ones too. Always picking a fight with the others, especially with the girls. The way he walked was also SO ah beng. oh my. Oh yeah, he love to sing too. And a very good drummer too. haha. :)

Recess/Breaks:
This is when we all saw how they spent their recess time. The girls mostly played skipping, and the guys played soccer. The younger kids will play chasing. Everytime they skipped or ran around, mini sandstorms will occur. haha. Once, there was a little commotion where a group of boys gathered under a tree, using a catapult to shoot something in the tree. At first, i thought they were trying to shoot some kind of fruits down to eat or what until they asked me to see. then i realised what they were shooting at. Birds! humming birds in fact. And the rather sad thing is those boys are rather good, managed to shoot them down. Then they will tie a piece of wood to the bird's leg to prevent them from flying away. Well, the last thing i heard is that one of the birds "suffocated" under one of the student's shirt. hmm, sad..

Lunch time, released the students and back to individual host's house to eat. All the while there have been no chicken, but vegetables and mostly fish. But surprisingly, the food really tasted good. haha. HOPE they dun use msg hor. Oh yeah, for every meal, we always have unwanted "visitors" under our table. Dogs! 1 dog is still alright. But 2 dogs usually mean a fight, which really annoy us sometimes. .Sometimes, 3 dogs! which means a war zone. haha. After lunch, back to school for lessons again. By this time, the weather is already very hot and most kids usually get restless le. No choice, just give them some colouring or drawing lessons to let them refocus. Or let them play some education games. haha. they really liked games.

Afternoon lessons:
Still remember the day of weekday friday. we realised there is really one thing which interests them alot and unite them together. That is singing!! It all started with a plain forfeit in a game, where we ask one student to sing for whole class. Surprisingly, not only they sing willingly, theys eem to enjoy it too. even the whole class! (even to the extent that i suspect they actually lose the game on purpose so that they can forfeit and sing. haha.) During the break, the girls in our class specially performed dances for us. The boys will act as the "drummers" and sing along as well. Can see taht they really enjoyed themselves. And so do me, doink , and yiting. Feel touched, that they specially performed for us. (or maybe its friday le, in a special good mood ba. haha) :) Because of this, the remaining of the afternoon lessons become singing and dancing lessons le. haha. They really really really enjoyed it. That matters the most. :):):)

Free time:
After the afternoon lessons, still left a couple of hours before sun set. Its really enjoyable as the kids will walk together with us back to the village. Some even hold hands with us! tao zhan shu and a few other boys will always volunteer to help us carry our teaching material back to the library too. :) Back to home, where we just watch the kids play or we play with them, blow bubbles, ball games, screams and shouts everywhere. Ocassionally, there will be fights within kids, until one of them will cry. However, after a while, they are back to normal. Their "recovery time" sure is fast. haha. Or we see the dogs fighting and chasing one another. Or the dog chasing the poor little chick and then the mother hen pecking and chasing the dog the other way round. Or we will accompany the kids to go to the nearest well to fill containers with water. The kids there(especially the girls) are really strong. :) Pei fu!! Or we played card games with the kids and the chief's daughter. they love card games so much. Especially ah noi and ah dui! Ah dui even became a "pro" at bluff le. (thanks to ah chyle's coaching... haha) Life is so carefree~

Night:
At night, we conducted lessons for the villagers, teenagers, teachers and village kids too. 2 groups again, and i stick with the kiddy group. haha. Basically its revision and some other extra stuff. Hmm. managed to recognise a few students from my class there. Keen to learn!! :) But i think more likely they just gathered there to play together de. haha. Oh yeah, the SEA games too. Got one night where we watch the football match between Singapore and Laos. Nothing much to see. :\ Then we will have our supper drinking hot ovaltine and eating biscuits. Weather is just that cold. haha.

During one night, Peter invited us over to drink beerlao at ah dui's house. The house where the NUS people stayed. There, their host treated us to chewy satay beef and... half hatched egg. That is the egg is already hatched halfway when they cooked it. Can see the small head and deformed body of the chick when they ate it. Kinda gross. :( But the villagers enjoyed it very much. Haha, too bad none of us dared to eat. Wonder how is the taste like. :D

This is the day of a typical weekday.
Life is JUST that simple. :)

Weekends:
Went to visit their turnip farms. Experienced firsthand digging up the turnips and eating them. fresh and juicy~ Not to mention sap lai lai too!! Haha. Digging wasnt easy,as we had to be careful too, else we will "slice" the turnips into half by accident. Which happened a lot of times actually. haha. But its fun. The village girls there are strong! douk khoon and ty ty too~

At night, watch the meteroite shower. Sky is super duper clear. Plenty of visible shining twinkling stars. And of course...plenty of meteors to see!! :):):) first time seeing!! Like every few minutes got one 流星! Even ah noi(chief's daughter) stayed with us to watch together. Very thoughtful and kind of them too, knowing that we wanna watch meteor rain, specially prepared mats, pillows, and blankets for us to lie down out side and enjoy. kop chai lai lai lai lai~ It was so fun~ especially when mad commented that 一个人看到不算, must everybody see it then can. haha. :D

Sunday we had picnic by the river, took a boat down to nam song. Had barbecued fresh fish, turnips and fresh veggies by the riverside. The bbqed fish is so NICE!( haha, think i finished one whole fish by myself. :P) And there is "snow" falling too...haha, its actually cotton. But the view is so nice, like snowing... Had chilled drinks too, just put the bottled beerlao and drinks at the river and they will be cold in no time. :) Had a dip in the river too, its so refreshing. but the ground is really slippery. Somemore, since we cant see the bottom, its hard to gauge the depth too. Had to be very careful. The current is surprisingly strong too. hmm. A bit dangerous actually, dun dare to swim too far.

Cooked pancakes for our host's family. though, its a bit burned but still edible. haha. To know whether is it tasty or not, just let the kids eat it and let them tell you. Kids's answers are the most honest. :P

Last day of lesson:
We never tell the class by mouth that we are leaving the next day, but somehow they can know and can feel it. Nevertheless, we gave away as much gifts as possible like colour pencils. Afternoon, after mass games of telematch, they had area cleaning. They even bring pails to fetch water from the nearby river. After class, we visited the other village. The students brought us there. NOW then i realised that the students actually came from 2 villages, not from pong song alone. no wonder. haha. Its almost the same. Ah ork(the ah lian and 大姐大 in our class) even brought me and doink to her house. She just stayed opposite the naiban's house. hoho.

Last day of departure:
Went to school early in the morning. Most students did not come, except students from the other village. Ah ha!! After much "waiting", at last get some flowers from the students. So touching~ (really afraid no one will give me flowers..sob sob...haha XD) Poor ah chyle, even had to use sweets to "bribe" kids to give flowers to him. lol. kinda sad, cause not all students came. Miss them. but never mind, those kids who came performed singing and dances for us. Deeply appreciated. :) Most of the girl dancers are from my class, thanks a lot too! :):):)

Had the cert giving ceremony and also a "blazer" from them. (heard that they wove it themselves?) Went through the Barci ceremony too.

Distributed tangyuans and muah chees to the villagers. NUS and NIE pple also came too. And the never ending dances. Been "dragged " out to dance countless of times le. haha. Went and visited the classrooms for the last time. Saw some kids playing inside.

突然间, 感触良多。。。

让我依依不舍的, 原来是这里的小孩子们。。。:'(

End of ceremony. Saw tears in ah ork's eyes. The kid in our class that dun liked us turned out to be the one that miss us the most. Not everyone came to send us off but...come to think of it, it may be a good thing too. Stiill remember ah kun who held our guys's hands very tightly and mumbled something to us. :(

If there is one thing thing that u cant hide, that is tears.

On the bus back to Vietiane, it was unusually quiet. Silent with muffled sobs. And the music and dance by the students keep ringing in my mind...their dance steps, their singing, their laughter, their smiles... :'(

Sometimes i wonder... whether will we be missed when we return back to singapore. Will they remember us? maybe some older villagers will, but how about the kids? I mean, we are not the only visitors there. there are NUS and NIE pple too. They may already be used to visitors come and go. Its been great fun and pleasure teaching them, despite the communication barrier. no doubt i will miss them. Definately.

pok hao haq pong song!!! :):):)
